2013 National Farm Toy Hall of Fame Inductee
Dyersville, IA, - - The National Farm Toy Museum will honor its 2013 National Farm Toy Hall of Fame inductee in a ceremony on Thursday, October 31, 2013 kicking off events for Toy Farmer’s® National Farm Toy Show®. The 2013 honoree joins a group of 39 others, beginning with Fred and Gertrude Ertl and Claire and Cathy Scheibe (complete listing at http://www.nationalfarmtoymuseum.com/halloffame.cfm). The purpose of the National Farm Toy Hall of Fame is to recognize those people who in a positive manner have given of their time and talents to the forwarding of the farm toy hobby. For his dedication to the farm toy hobby, Earl Terpstra will be inducted this year into the National Farm Toy Hall of Fame.
Earl Terpstra graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in agricultural engineering. Following military service in Germany with special troops, he went to work for USDA’s Soil Conservation Service. This provided frequent travel opportunities for Earl to purchase toys. It also resulted in working for the US Secretary of Agriculture for a period of time. Since 1964 Earl Terpstra’s affection for the hobby grew in the pursuit of toys for his extensive collection. Earl especially like the Minneapolis-Moline brand and treasured Vindex and Arcade cast iron toys. Drawn by the search for toys, Earl stayed in the hobby for the numerous friendships he acquired. Earl contributed to the hobby as a researcher for Al Aune’s classic book Arcade Toys. Earl was also one of the managers of an early toy show in Maryland. Earl is pleased to have passed on his passion for collecting to Earl Jr. and future generations.
The National Farm Toy Museum, houses the National Farm Toy Hall of Fame including memorabilia and representative farm toys of past nominees. A not-for-profit 501(c)(3) the museum’s mission is the preservation of the history of agriculture through farm toy collecting. The National Farm Toy Museum is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
